"Please add support for identi.ca / Laconica"

  • fortellerNov 1, 2008, 6:50 pmTwitterified is a great twitter client, but I'm afraid I can't use it as my main client.

I can't because I use both Twitter and identi.ca. So I very, very much hope that you will add support for identi.ca. identi.ca
is an Open Source "Twitter clone" with a Twitter compatible API. That
means that all you have to do is to change the URL of the Twitter API
to the identi.ca API URL, and all your existing code for Twitter will work with identi.ca! Almost no work, but it will make a lot of people happy!

Laconica is the code that identi.ca runs,
and anyone can install it on their own server, like Leo Laporte's very popular
podcasting network TWiT has done with http://army.twit.tv/. The
only thing you need to do to add support for any installation of
Laconica, instead of just identi.ca, is
to let the user herself tell you the URL of the API. For an example
just look at how http://twitterfeed.com does it.

    Thanks! :)
  • chrisfrNov 3, 2008, 3:45 amYes, it seems like it would be a good move. Can't beat the price!
Do you mean, though, that since you are using both Twitter and Laconica, you would need a client that allows both accounts to be logged in at the same time?
  • fortellerNov 3, 2008, 12:26 pmGreat!
Yes, that's what I'm hoping for. You could take a look at IdentiTwitch as a good example of a client that supports both Twitter and identi.ca and unifies both timelines into one. But it's missing one feature I hope Twitterified will have: If someone you follow on both Twit and id posts the same message to both, those messages should be "melted" into one! Gwibber does this in a good way, but it's for Linux only.

Thanks for pointing me to these tools.

    It's on the roadmap :)

  • fortellerNov 9, 2008, 12:02 pmFantastic! Thank you!
  • chrisfrNov 17, 2008, 1:47 amTwitterified Client v1.2 is out, and it should match your description :)
  • fortellerNov 23, 2008, 7:53 pmFantastic!

Only problem is that I'm not able to send updates to identi.ca, only to Twitter. Also I cannot see that I'm able to log in to any Laconica install other than identi.ca, Twit Army, and Linux Infusion. Not that I want you to add more to the drop down list, but like I mentioned that twitterfeed.com does: Let anyone write the URL of the Laconica install they use.

But I'm very happy so far! Thank you!
  • fortellerNov 25, 2008, 10:24 pmNow I can post updates to identi.ca after all. Strange!
  • fortellerDec 19, 2008, 10:41 amHey, could you add the "source" parameter to the API calls? That way identi.ca will recognize and tell everyone that Twitterified was the client used to send the tweet/post. So you'll get some free advertising! :)
